You are absolutely right about all the maintenance required for widgets. For that very reason, at wowzio.com, we offer white label solutions for the widgets which provide seo value to the content owner, so it's hosted on our end and maintained by us. Would love to give more details. ping me at baldua@ with the domain of jomondo.com .

Nearly all Webhosting services now offer "unlimited" service plans. I have never yet run into one that could justify using the "unlimited" in its sales pitch but there seem to have been no successful lawsuits or Federal Trade Commission actions.

Some cloud computing-based hosting services now claim you can have "real" unlimited hosting but I have not personally used any (although we have a project here at work that is just being launched on a cloud system).

Dedicated server plans are offered at all prices. I'm currently paying about $80 a month for my current server. However, the lower-priced plans usually require that you know what you are doing. They are bare-bones and don't come with much support.

The "server" is usually a blade server in a rack at some network operations center. You never touch the box but remotely log into it. It's not exactly the same as setting up your own server and connecting it to the Internet.

It may be cheaper for you to interconnect several low-budget hosting accounts together. I used to do that before my traffic become so active I was forced into the leased server market.

You mentioned to watch your resources because your Webhosting service might not be forgiving... I use Yahoo and they said that my plan has 'unlimited' bandwidth. Well, I found out that it's unlimited for most, but not all. Around Christmas, they started locking me out from posting more material. I called the number they included in their notice and talked to a rep. He told me that my plan is unlimited, but that there is a limit to 'how fast you can grow' a site. I told him that I wouldn't mind paying more to get a 'truly unlimited plan'. Problem is that their next step up in hosting is like three or four times what I'm paying. Bummer! Wish I had understood the use of the term 'unlimited' when I signed up. I don't pay much, so I can't complain, but my site is starting to outgrow my cheap Yahoo hosting plan. Don't know how to set up my own server, etc. Does having your own server mean that you have a second computer and you create a network of sorts? (Michael, delete my other post. Grammar mistake. Use this one. Thanks! Christina)
